Trying to compile 1.4.5 on Ubuntu 6.10

First I apt-get removed 1.4.4 and it only removed Amarok and Amarok-Xine.  Silly me thought since nothing else was removed that all the dependencies would be there for me when I compiled.  But I guess this error:

"checking for Qt... configure: error: Qt (>= Qt 3.3 and < 4.0) (headers and libraries) not found. Please check your installation!
For more details about this problem, look at the end of config.log." IS the message I receive when compiling.  What do I need to install to have a successful compile on this Gnome-based Ubuntu.  I can tell you that I did try the qt3-dev-tools without success.

Also:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
linux-headers-2.6.17-10-generic is already the newest version.

Help please. :)  I really would like 1.4.5...

On a side note... I installed libmtp-dev and libmtp.  This will make Amarok 1.4.5 (when it is finally compiled and installed) play nicely with Creative players and other MTP devices, right?  At least theoretically...

try installing "libqt3-headers".

Turns out that was one I needed.  I also needed qt-mt-dev or something.  Which did work!  I now got past QT! :D  But...

checking for KDE... configure: error:
in the prefix, you've chosen, are no KDE headers installed. This will fail.
So, check this please and use another prefix!

./configure --prefix=`kde-config --prefix` is the prefix i am using.  i am sure it is not correct.  Sorry, this is my first time really building something and that is the command the Amarok HowTO told me to use.  I guess it is geared towards KDE desktops.  What prefix should I use?

What's the output of `kde-config --prefix` on your system?  For Kubuntu it should be /usr

Well, nevermind dudes.  I eventually got everything peachy with the help of the IRC channel.  It is running fine now but I do have a few issues with it which I will post in another thread.

Any chance you could say what you did?  I have never been able to compile Amarok on Ubuntu.  I get the libqt-mt error, despite the fact that this is installed (with threading support).
