Its starting to tick me off how every other device is turned on from the start yet us MTP users have to jump through hoops to get it working, i love amarok but can someone explain why this isnt turned on like everything else from the start, surely there are heaps of users by now that have these devices, is there some political reason ive missed.

This is very much a distro issue - the packaging of amarok is beyond the control of developers. Perhaps you could file a bug report with your distro's bug tracker requesting MTP support by default.

so when i download Amarok from Amaroks website and get ipod/iriver/ect ect support straight up but no MTP support its my distro's fault, i dont get it.

Because the packages on Amarok's website are provided by the various distros' package maintainers.
