Hi,
I'm using the latest FreeBSD port of Amarok (audio/amarok-1.4.5_1), compiled with iPod support enabled, using xine for playback. However, if I want to add a new media device manually, the only options available are "Generic Audio Player", "Music Sharing" and "Creative Nomad Jukebox Media Device". When my iPod is mounted, the Autodetect function detects it as "Generic Audio Player", which obviously doesn't work well at all with the iPod. When mounted on /mnt/ipod, I can manage the iPod using gtkpod, so the libgpod backend must be working properly. Any ideas what's wrong here?

As it turned out, libgpod 1.4.2 is required for iPod support, but the latest version in FreeBSD ports is 1.4.0, so Amarok is built without that feature. I have already contacted the port maintainer for Amarok, who has subsequently forwarded the issue to the maintainer of libgpod, so there is hope that it will be resolved within the next few days.

I had the same issue in FC5. The most recent build of libgpod is 0.3.0 in the FC5 respositories. FC6 has the latest...
I ended up compiling and bulding the latest version of libgpod 0.4.2 and then built amarok against the latest FC5 amarok.spec file to create an RPM. Although a lengthy and convulted process it worked. |
