Ok, here's the deal. I've run Ubuntu/Kubuntu on and off since 6.06 was released, but could never get rid of Windows. I'm a computer technician and got an early copy of Vista Business RTM, ran it for a few weeks to familiarize myself with it and then shortly thereafter wanted wanted to kill myself. After all of hte 3d eyecandy I couldn't go back to XP and with the recent release of WINE I'm satisfied with its compatibility with the windows programs I need to run. I now run Ubuntu Edgy.
So here's my problem. I wanted to use the Creative Zen Micro Touch 5GB with Amarok, read this guice http://thecrosstalk.blogspot.com/2007/0 ... nager.html and attempted to compile it from source with MTP built in. It didn't work so I removed it via sudo apt-get remove amarok-built (what I named the build package as suggested in this gentleman's guide) and then to free up all of the space the KDE libs that I no longer needed were taking up I also did sudo apt-get remove kde*. Then I attempted to install the latest version in the repos and whenever I go to launch it from the terminal I get this: X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 169 Major opcode: 147 Minor opcode: 3 Resource id: 0x0 Failed to open device X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 169 Major opcode: 147 Minor opcode: 3 Resource id: 0x0 Failed to open device Amarok: [Loader] Starting amarokapp.. Amarok: [Loader] Don't run gdb, valgrind, etc. against this binary! Use amarokapp. X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 169 Major opcode: 147 Minor opcode: 3 Resource id: 0x0 Failed to open device X Error: BadDevice, invalid or uninitialized input device 169 Major opcode: 147 Minor opcode: 3 Resource id: 0x0 Failed to open device If you need any info in about my system, please tell me where exactly the needed info can be found, because, as you can see, I know my way around computers very well, however I've only probably 200 hours total using any form of Linux. Thanks in advance |

You attempted to install KDE or you did?

No, I didn't attempt to install KDE, but part of the guide that I was following required a bunch of KDE libs. Further down in the guide I linked to it says that if you wish to remove it and free up the disk space you can do sudo apt-get remove kde*. So I'm assuming that that pulled out some dependancy that Amarok (from the repo) needs that itsn't automatically installed, but I don't know.
