Hi,
I am trying to get my iPod Nano to work but i don't get the 'itunes device' handler as an option. All the sources i have read on the net suggest that this is an 'out-of-the-box' feature? I am using Amarok 1.4.5 on Fedora Core 5 (64 bit). I have installed GtkPod and this can connect and transfer music to my ipod. Thanks for any help. Louie |

Update.
I'm getting now where in finding what the problem is... I downloaded the source and have run into serveral problems, currently it will configure but it wont build the actual amarok app. If i could get it to do that i think it would probably work as it says that the ipod package would be included in the build (although i wanted the mysql bit as well but that wont get included!) Am i missing something really obvious? Is there any other information that i can give to help find the problem? Thanks, Louie |

On the left (in Amarok), there's a thing marked "Devices". In this little panel thing, your iPod should be detected, as long as it's mounted. Just select the device from the drop-down menu, and go from there.
You may need to install the gpod libraries. |

That's the problem. I can mount the ipod and i can transfer files to if i tell it to use the 'Generic Handler'. But that doesn't add it to the ipod database.
I need the ipod Handler which isn't in the list. I have installed libgpod and it still doesn't appaear in the list (which i assume must mean that the build didn't have it in, hence why i am trying to build it from source). |

Where did you get Amarok from (e.g. preinstalled, package...)?

I installed the package from the Add/Remove Programs (on the Menu )

Okay, so i have got the source to install now and it says that it includes the ipod support but still it's not in the list
(pretty sure its not installing correctly as it says that the iRiver Handler wont be installed but it does!) Ths List contains : Generic Audio Player Music Sharing Creative Nomad Jukebox iRiver iFp MTP Media Device Is it right that i should have an 'iPod Device Handler' option as well. or am i missing something really simple? Thanks, Louie |

Are you running the freshly compiled Amarok?

I did the configure ... make and then make install. Do i have to run a specific file to install it?

"make install" needs to be done as root, i.e. "sudo make install". Did you do it as root?

Yep, i was using su.
I have found that its not picking up my xine-lib and so its not building. (strange that it was installing the rpm) gonna try and figure this out now. It should be picking it up as i have the devel installed too! Thanks, Louie |

Sucess : its working..
I managed to build and install the app and the ipod handler is now available. My ipod connects to it too. I managed to show it where xine was by adding a PKG_LIBRARY_PATH to my .bashrc and then it would build the app properly. However the ipod support was now being excluded (it said that it was the wrong version, but it was happy before!) I installed the latest version of the libgpod and it sorted it out. Thanks, Louie |
