Hello all,
first time KDE user, first time amarok user I have this problem with amarok that it never finishes building my collection. It always hangs at some random %. I've tried MySQL and the default db. My collection is mounted on /media/music and its a 160gig fat32 drive with about 12,000 songs many of which are not correctly named and tagged. 1. How can I find which songs make amarok never to complete building the collection process? I've started amarok through a terminal but I got no output. 2. It seems that amarok doesn't accept all characters in song filenames? For example I had song which contained a ` in the filename and amarok could not play it neither could it scan the directory the file was in. Konqueror and Konsole showed the filename normally. I'm using UTF8 as my locale if that matters and I've mounted the vfat partition with utf8=true option 3. Can I stop amarok importing playlists at all? It seems if a directory contains an invalid playlist (one that points to songs which changed filenames) the collection building process doesn't complete as well Finally I would like to note that amarok never crashes or stops responding it just never completes buidlng the collection and no songs are added to it. Not even the ones that it has scanned successfully already. any help is greatly appreciated |

For your first question; check ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok/collection_scan.log
the troublesome file should be listed there |

also search these forums for numerous posts with various suggestions for this problem. There can be a number of things causing the problem. Start with search terms like "collection scan" "collection building" etc
