Amarok/Ubuntu Fiesty/iPod problem

Fri Apr 27, 2007 5:52 pm
I just recently decided to jump head on with Ubuntu and ditch Windows XP completely. So far the transition has gone along quiet smoothly with a few snags here and there that I was able to solve with alittle help from the forums and the IRC channel. The one problem that I have is not so much a problem as an annoyance. I have been using Rhythmbox as my music management program but I want to try and give Amarok a try because I've heard it's better for iPod management. Now here is where the problem arrises.
I connect my iPod to my computer via USB. Ubuntu automatically recognizes it and mounts the iPod and places a nice little icon on my desktop. Rhythmbox recognizes my iPod right away, but when I open Amarok it doesn't recognize my iPod. I go to the Device tab and it hit connect and it doesn't find the iPod. It asks for its Mount Point and the type of iPod. What do I do?

If you go into Amarok configuration, you should see a Devices menu icon on the left hand side.  Click the icon, and on the right, you can autodetect media devices.  Amarok should then see your ipod, and you simply need to tell it that its an Apple Ipod Media Device from the dropdown menu.

Do a google search on stopping rhythmbox from automatically popping up when you plug your ipod in.
