Please bear with me as I'm fairly new to Linux and Amarok. I'm having a somewhat strange problem that I'm not sure how to fix...
I'm running OpenSuSE 10.2 with Amarok 1.4.5. My music is all MP3s residing on a Windows drive, so I've mounted that drive using the CIFS file system. The collection has several thousand songs, so I decided to use MySQL to store collection information. Well, to make a long story short, the collection scanner is missing a large number of these files when adding to the collection. I've done a little troubleshooting and really can't figure out what to look for next. The collection scanner completes the scan of the drive as I can see the log of files scanned and all files are included, even if they aren't included in the finished collection. If I go to one of the directories that fails and run the collection scanner manually, I get the following:
There are no funky filenames that I can see:
Also, if I play the files directly they play fine. I've checked other files by this same artist and they are added properly to the collection. Lastly, I've tried editing the tags through Amarok and am presented with an error that the tags could not be edited on these files. I have a sneaking suspicion that there is something in the tags that is causing these files to fail to be added to the collection. Can anybody confirm or deny this? Great product, by the way. I've tried using Banshee, where the files all scan into the collection, but the UI is nowhere near as good as Amarok... Many Thanks. Brandon |

Just to close the loop, that did the trick. Next time I'll be sure the search the WIKI.
Many thanks! |

Hello all
I had a similar problem using OpenSuse 10.2. I just recently decided to give Kubuntu a try and so far I have had no problems with Amarok -- until today. I allowed the program to organize the files of all the artists starting with A. It did a good job of this but now these MP3's are no longer in Amarok's database (I verified that they were on the disk and playable). I'm running Amarok 1.4.5 on KDE 3.5.6 in Kubuntu feisty. Any help that anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated. This problem is very irritating for me. |
