I've been trying to install mp3 support on Amarok. I opened the program and dragged an mp3 file into the playlist field. The dialogue popped up asking me whether I wanted to install mp3 support. I clicked on the install button, and the program froze.
This happened repeatedly. In addition, after the next-most-recent attempt Knotify, the KDE Crash Handler, popped up and said: The application KNotify (knotify) crashed and caused the signal 11 (S1GSEGV). What is this? An application mostly recieves the S1GSEGV signal due to a bug in the application The application was asked to save its documents. What can I do? You might want to send a bug report for this application. heck if it is listed on http://bugs.kde.org, otherwise mail the author. Please include as much information as possible, maybe the original documents. If you have a way to reproduce the error, include this also. After the most recent attempt, this was displayed. Knotify problem - Knotify During the previous startup, KNotify crashed while instantiating Knotify. Do you want to try again or disable aRts sound output? If you choose to disable aRts output now, you can re-enable it later or select an alternate sound player in the System Notifications control panel. I don't know if these are connected, but they occurred at the same time. |

That's not normal, but you should be able to install mp3 support manually:
sudo apt-get install libxine-extracodecs
