Hi Folks,
Does anybody know how to stream from a server requiring authentication? I'd expect a dialog to pop up for login/password like when accessing the server from a browser, however when authentication is enabled Amarok gives the 'no suitable plugin, possible network failure' type error without any obvious attempt to login. When disabling authentication on the server (apache) Amarok streams just fine. Not sure if it matters but xine is used as the audio plugin. -Armond |

Perhaps the inline notation will work:
Ex.: tux:topsecret@server.net |

Yeah, the inline notation might work for hand picking specific files, but this setup is using Ampache which servers out playlists and such. Here the links come from Ampache... not the user typing them in.
Thanks for the response. -Armond |

I'm using Ampache with Amarok too, and it doesn't seem to require authentication. It requires logging in to browse the Ampache GUI, but the music itself isn't protected.

In this setup, sever level authentication is enabled intentionally..... It's Apache saying, "Who the heck are you?" before it forwards the request to Ampache.
I imagine this is a more general question of how to get Amarok to work with server level authentication. -Armond |
