Mysterious breaks and gaps playing WMA files

Greetings,

I'm having some issues playing WMA files in amarok 1.4.6 with the xine engine. For no apparent reason the sound comes out horribly broken up with nasty gaps. This isn't a problem with other filetypes (mp3, ogg, ...), I don't think it's anything to do with my soundcard (Edirol FA-101, using jack/freebob drivers), and curiously the same WMA files will play perfectly using the xine player (as opposed to the amarok xine output plugin). So, any ideas where I should start investigating?

I'm a little unclear on amarok's plugin architecture, but get the impression that the output drivers are also responsible for input decoding. Is this correct? So assuming the xine libs are shared, and given that the xine player itself can play the files with no problems, where could the trouble be?

Would appreciate any pointers :)

Thanks,
Alex.
