Song change = stutter

Sun Aug 12, 2007 5:51 pm
Hi

Whenever my Amarok goes to the next song, whether the current song ends or i just press the next button, my system hangs for one or two seconds. It may seem like only a nuisance but while playing a game it can be very very annoying...

Some friends of mine have a similar setup to mine but dont experience these problems in the least.

I assumed it might be because my music collection is on a ntfs partition but I have the same problems with files on my linux partition. All the songs are mp3, I am using an sqlite database and the xine engine.

I've done a search but didnt find anything so... hope someone can help or point me in the right direction. Any feedback would be appreciated ^^

SQLite isn't the fastest of databases. If your collection is quite large, consider switching to MySQL.

Also don't let your playlist grow to be over a couple of hundred.

Thanks for the fast replies.

Unfortunately, the situation hasn't improved - I have installed mysql, switched amarok to use an mysql database, rebuilt the database, but it's still the same...

However, I have noticed that the problem is not affecting my entire system - it only does when something is running on wine. I'll go and see on the wine IRC channel for help then.

Thanks for the help again ^^

Good idea - quite a lot happens when there's a song change, and this is mostly when system load will affect playback.
