MTP Issues

Tue Aug 21, 2007 5:45 pm
I am currently using Amarok 1.4.6 with libmtp 0.2.1 on a gentoo system with my Creative Zen Xtra and am having issues with limitations.

Firstly, if this is an issue with libmtp please let me know, otherwise i am looking for input on how to help my situation.

I have transfered approximately 7k songs through amarok to my mp3 player, however, not even half of those show when i connect to the player through amarok.  once i've hit this limit, if i go to the mp3 player i can delete some tracks and amarok will allow me to transfer some more over, then it hits that limit again.  once again, amarok still does not display all of the tracks it has transfered on to the device.

amarok will freeze up if i attempt to remove any tracks once it has hit this limit, and also freezes the mp3 player, often causing me to have to pull the battery out, and then upon the next boot of the player, it rebuilds the collection as it was shut down improperly.

how can i go about getting approx 70gig worth of songs on to my mp3 player?  is this a libmtp limitation?  if not any suggestions on other applications to use until the issue is fixed for amarok?  looking over the change log it doesn't seem as though an upgrade to 1.4.7 will do much good, how about amarok 2.0?

what is the capacity of your player? How much overhead does the player use to maintain its internal database What size is its FAT? On my 30GB player, I was never able to get more than around 28GB of music. On larger capacity, the overheads would be higher.

It's possible that the device itself only has the capacity to hold 7k tracks, in terms of FAT entries.

Otherwise, it's possibly a problem with libmtp.

apparently the amarok read limit is around 3339 tracks as this is how many it will read for me, unless it's read limit is based on folders

*amarok can and has transfered many many more

again... have you checked whether it's a known prob with current libmtp?

Also, try with other apps, to make sure no problem has developed with your player. gnomad2 I believe is another linux app to transfer tracks, or try in windows.
