Hi there,

I've just spent bloomin' 2.5 hours downloding and Installing AMAROK to use with my Zen Vision:M, and it took bloomin' longer to install than it did to upgrade my Fiesty Fawn distro to Ubuntu Studio!!

ANYWAY, I can connect my player, but I can't play anything, but that's not all, I can't even play MP3's...this is the error that pops up:

Error Loading Media
No suitable input plugin. This often means that the url's protocol is not supported. Network failures are other possible causes.

I though it might be a permissions /SU thing, but I still couldn't play when running as sudo..??

How can I use it as a normal user? What folder permissions do I need to change?

I also looked at the Amarok settings and I have Xine engine, can this be changed to another MP3 playing engine?

When I run AMORAK as su I get the following error when trying to play:

The xine-engine claims it cannot play MP3 files.
You may want to choose a different engine from the Configure Dialog, or examine the installation of the multimedia-framework that the current engine uses.
You may find useful information in the FAQ section of the Amarok HandBook.

Can someone please suggest a fix (or the command to enter)

Thanks (pulling my hair out over how slow and frustrating this app was to install!!)

check for xine codec packages... something like non-free or extracodecs.

I'm having a similar problem.  Am new to Obuntu and Amarok, so while I read the reply, I'm not sure how to "check for xine codec packages".  Could dangle_wtf or someone else give a little bit more information about how to resolve?

Thanks

using whatever package manager you usually use for package installation on your distro, search for "xine". One of the results offered should be something similar to the above.
