I will first say I am a noob to linux. I just dumped XP and switched to pclinuxOS I love it but bare with me if I get a lil fuzzy. Ok I have a problem with amarok basically being unusable. I have a collection of 18,000 songs that spans across 2 HD's and I have added all of them to the amarok collections manager but amarok ether creeps like death or the amarok screen grays out or it just freezes and I have to kill it. I love amarok but I can't really use it any ideas?
Thanks, Chris |

At a guess, I'd say you're loading every track into your playlist screen, as you would do in xmms. In Amarok, it makes more sense resource-wise (as well as operationally!) to use the playlists tab, and learn about smart and dynamic playlists.

Hi Chris, I had the same problem and seem to have fixed it by using MySQL for the database instead of the default SQLite.
There's a how-to in the Amarok Wiki. You may need to install MySQL server and client packages if they're not included by default in your PCLinuxOS setup. |
