Hi nikef
To have Amarok play your music, you need to tell Amarok to add it to its collection (dont worry, it does not copy your music, just builds an index so it knows what you have) Go to settings->Configure Amarok->Collection and mark off the folders that contain your music. Amarok now knows where to look and will automatically update your collection if you add new stuff in the future. If it does not automatically start scanning your collection, go to the tools menu option and select "Rescan Collection" Hope this helps! Have fun, Nikolaj |

have tried to play a song ,without cd
and get this error message ![]() No suitable input plugin. This often means that the url's protocol is not supported. Network failures are other possible causes. cdda:/1 |

If I understand correctly, you have tried to add the cCD to you collection. This will not work. You said you also have music on your PC, this is what you should add to your collection. If you want to add your CD to your collection, you will need to rip it to your hard disk first, using a program like k3b or others...

thanks guys
i have ripped music with the k3b and now can listen to my music ![]() so Amarok can not rip cds then ? |

No, Amarok depends on other programs for this functionality, just as it also depends on k3b for burning your playlists to a cd.
This is so the developers can focus on creating a REALLY good music manager / player instead of copying effort that goes into other great programs! ![]() - Nikolaj |

It sounds like you don't have the mp3 codecs installed. Are you suing ubuntu? If so, read the (K)Ubuntu README FIRST! thread in the help forum.
