Gapless has never worked for me regardless of version. Each version change I try and try again and it never fails when I predict that it isn't fixed yet. Correct me if I am wrong, but what is done in Amarok to try to achieve gapless playback is a hack. MPD plays perfect, XMMS2 playback is perfect, will Amarok ever have a true working gapless playback? And no, my computer is not slow, yes I have tried ogg, FLAC, like I said, other players considered for gapless playback play them perfectly.

if you've read as much as you imply, you'd realise that the responsibility for gapless playback lies with the xine engine. Why not run along and bug them, eh?

Should I imply that the issue of gapless playback is not of high concern to you? If so, what parts of Amarok are there that you care about? Strange enough, I would think that correct playback is kinda essential to the basis of any player. Like say, a movie player that doesn't have cuts and glitches between scenes. Not ranting, just cannot believe that after all the years of devel for the interface that the audio would still be broken. Someday huh?

My point is that the function of gapless playback lies in the xine backend. It's implemented in amarok as far as the backend provides for it. Do the same tracks you're having problems with in Amarok work in xine?
And you're right, I prefer xfade.

They are the same..
I have tried players like kaffeine with the same result. I understand. Amarok is at the mercy of xine, or whatever works as a backend. You know though, I have heard that Amarok will be available on Mac and Win platforms soon, and if they get decent playback like it should, I may never get over it. Friggin portable players that run on batteries and have all their own **** built in play back perfectly now. I just need to get over it and be satisfied with stupid GTK buggy non drag+drop interfaces that manage to have an audio subset that works. So sad. Too bad the xine guys use some other player. |
