problem with autoconf - Amarok SVN

Tue Sep 25, 2007 12:07 pm
Hello to everyone,

I'm trying to compile the Amarok's SVN sources, but when I do "make -f Makefile.cvs" I have this error in response:

This Makefile is only for the CVS repository
This will be deleted before making the distribution

./admin/cvs.sh: 651: --version: not found
*** AUTOCONF NOT FOUND!.
*** KDE requires autoconf 2.53 or newer
make[1]: *** [cvs] Error 1
make: *** [all] Error 2

Yes, Autoconf is installed and is the lastest release in gutsy (I use ubuntu Feisty), of course.

What can I do?

In case you are trying to compile SVN-head with autoconf, this will not work. Amarok switched to cmake in SVN moving towards Amarok 2 and KDE 4.
Make sure you check out the "stable" branch.

Actually, I use the guide on the Amarok's site... So I can't compile from SVN?

you need to install automake-2.5 and export WANT_AUTOMAKE=2.5 in your environment.

I had the same problem, what I did was made sure I had the correct versions, and then checked ./admin/cvs.sh: 651

With the file name, it'll also say what line, go to that line with vim, and edit it.  It'll look something like this

$AUTOMAKEVERSION='$AUTOMAKE --version"

Edit the "$AUTOMAKE" to be "automake", so that way it actually runs the command automake.

There were a few that gave me that problem  (Not just automake, a few other programs.  Make sure you have them installed before editting!

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT VERSION INSTALLED TOO!

[edit] I just figured out why, you're supposed to have variables from $AUTOMAKE_something to automake, however I woudln't know the exact names.  If you want it done right, find out.  If you want it quick and probably have me yelled at by developers, try my way.
