Hi Amarok friends,
Every time I start Amarok the playlist is missing. And when I go to the playlists tab, it's empty. There are playlists in ./kde/share/apps/amarok/playlists but they do not show in Amarok. I manually saved a playlist to my home folder, but upon restart, it wasn't loaded either. So now I manually load it everytime I open Amarok. Anybody know how to fix this annoying problem? Thanks!! Using Amarok 1.4.5 (using kde 3.5.6) on Ubuntu Feisty database is mysql

Update,
mysteriously Amarok now finds my playlists again. But it still opens with an empty playlist. So every time I close Amarok I have to make sure I save my playlist, and every time I open it again I have to choose the playlist. How can I make Amarok to start with a full playlist, like it used to? (it is annoying because Feisty Compiz-fusion Firefox and Nvidia do not play well together and crash a lot, and then I have to reassemble my latest playlist all over again° Hope someone can help! |

What happens is probably this: You have a very long playlist, and when you shut down your desktop, Amarok isn't able to shut down fast enough to save the entire playlist; so it will become truncated or corrupted. What you can do is, keep a shorter playlist, or shut down Amarok manually. I also remember that some older version had a bug that made playlist saving especially slow. So maybe upgrading could help here too.
This bug has been fixed in 1.4.7.

Hi Mark,
thanks for replying yes that could very well be, I used to have a playlist of 5 days and some more hours ![]() ![]() Normally I close Amarok manually, but Ubuntu crashes a lot lately. If it's fixed in 1.4.7, I will wait, I suppose it will be in ubuntu's next release Gutsy Gibbon which will be out in oktober (?) Thanks again |

In general we recommend not to use giant (thousands of tracks) playlists with Amarok. This is because Amarok is simply not designed to do that (it might get slow).
Instead you should utilize the Collection Browser, and the Dynamic Playlists function, which can do things like random play automatically, without a big playlist.

Hi,
meanwhile I've upgraded to Gutsy Gibbon Amarok 1.4.7 KDE 3.5.8, problem remains. After (even manually) shuting down, even with a small playlist (1 song), when I reopen Amarok, the playlist is emtpy. Isn't there a setting somewhere to tell it to continue playing the last playlist? |

Unfortunately, it has not. I have 1.4.7 in Gutsy Gibbon, and Playlists have gone AWOL again. I can see them in ./kde/share/apps/amarok/playlists but they do not load. The other problem, Amarok not remembering current playlist is still present. settings/configure amarok/remember current playlist on exit is checked, but it does not remember. Also not when I close Amarok a long time before I shutdown. So it has nothing to do with shutting down to fast. Any ideas? |

Well that's strange; can't reproduce your problems. Maybe you should try nuking your config completely.
