I'm trying to use Amarok on my server to manage my MP3 library (also residing on the the server) and the server doesn't have a sound card.
I'm running Kubuntu Fiesty. Each time I start Amarok, it hangs and gives me the message "Seems to be taking a long time to load, perhaps something is wrong". I've tried rerunning the Wizard etc, but as soon as it passes the wizard and goes into normal 'run mode' it hangs still. I 'think' it's because no sound card, because Xine was having the same symptoms until I set the sound card setting on Xine to be 'null' and then it worked OK. Is there any way to set Amarok to use specific engine settings, or null sound driver? I'm using latest version of Amarok too.

Hm, only thing I get when I have no sound card present is something along the lines of a pop-up saying "unable to play", although that's a case of still having alsa there, just without a driver loaded.
You could try editing the xine-config file in ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok/
