amarok fails to scan entire directory

I have my music files divided by genre into four directories. It has scanned the entire contents of three of those directories, but has only scanned about a third of the files in the fourth directory. In settings, I deselected all directories, before rescanning the collection from tools so that I'd empty the collection. I then reselected the specific directory in question, and again, it only scanned about a third of the mp3 files. There is nothing unique about the files that it scanned. The permissions and ownership are the same on all four directories. Still, Amarok is not even acknowledging the existence of about two thirds of said files.

I deleted the ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok directory and uninstalled Amarok.  I then reinstalled Amarok, but apparently Amarok remembered my preferences -- the files scanned prior to uninstallation were still there.

I don't mind using mocp for playing music, but I need Amarok in order to load my music files onto an ipod (and rhythmbox doesn't seem to have any feature that allows you to label by genre). What could pausibly be the cause of such an arbitrary problem?

You have to delete ~/.kde/share/config/amarokrc too if you want Amarok to forget your settings.

Try to run amarok from a terminal an see if it complains about the  two thirds" files. Can you add them to the Amarok playlist and play them?

Ok, I deleted both the config file and the directory that I mentioned after uninstalling amarok.  Upon reinstalling, it led me through the process of scanning a directory during start-up.  I only chose the problem directory, and it still excludes the vast majority of my files.

I can add add media to the playlist manually, but it doesn't show up in the collection pane.

Here is the output that I get when running amarok from a terminal window:

I figured out the problem.  I feel like a doofus.  Apparently, it did import the entire collection, but apparently, I had accidentally applied a label for one band for the majority of the collection, most of which is not by the band.  That caused the collection to appear incomplete.
