Hi

I hope this is the right forum to address my problem to:

I have  OpenSuse10.3 with amarok 1.4.7, libmtp 0.2.3 installed on my PC and I try to sync my new Creative Zen 8GB with Amarok. BUT: Amarok does not want to....

This is what I've found out so far:
1. mtp-detect detects the player and prints out lots of information on what the device is capable, etc.
2. Amarok auto detect feature does not detect the player. Instead an error is reported saying that I should run a kde command:
"No new media devices were found. If you feel this is an error, ensure that the DBUS and HAL daemons are running and KDE was built with support for them. You can test this by running "dcop kded mediamanager fullList" in a Konsole window."
3. Command "dcop kded mediamanager fullList" does not mention anything about the connected Zen
4.I manually created an MTP device entry in Amarok
3. When I click on "connect" Amarok reports an error: "Could not connect to device" and following debug messages are printed out on the console:
PTP: Opening session
PTP_ERROR_IO: Trying again after re-initializing USB interface
inep: usb_get_endpoint_status(): Protocol error
outep: usb_get_endpoint_status(): Protocol error
usb_clear_halt() on IN endpoint: Protocol error
usb_clear_halt() on OUT endpoint: Protocol error
usb_clear_halt() on INTERRUPT endpoint: Protocol error
PTP: Opening session
ptp2/ptp_usb_getdata: detected a broken PTP header, code field insane, expect problems! (But continuing)
PTP: Sequence number mismatch -771632894 vs expected 1.
LIBMTP PANIC: Unable to read device information on device number 1, trying to continueLIBMTP_Get_First_Device: Error Connecting

So it seems something is wrong on the mtp protocol layer ?!

I appreciate if anybody could comment on this.

So I gonna answer my post myself and maybe it is interesting for other people as well.

I checked out Amarok from svn and compiled it. With that version transferring music files to the Zen player works, however one problem remains. The player is not properly disconnected when I click on disconnect. Amarok says it is disconnected, the player is still in "docked" mode.
I have to reset the player in order to use it again....

There still seems to be a mtp protocol problem:

PTP: Opening session
PTP_ERROR_IO: Trying again after re-initializing USB interface
PTP: Opening session
ptp2/ptp_usb_getdata: detected a broken PTP header, code field insane, expect problems! (But continuing)
PTP: Sequence number mismatch -771632894 vs expected 1.
QWidget::setMinimumSize: The smallest allowed size is (0,0)
PTP: Closing session
ERROR: Could not close session!
PTP: Opening session
ptp2/ptp_usb_getdata: detected a broken PTP header, code field insane, expect problems! (But continuing)
PTP: Sequence number mismatch -771632894 vs expected 1.
PTP: Closing session
PTP: Opening session
ptp2/ptp_usb_getdata: detected a broken PTP header, code field insane, expect problems! (But continuing)
PTP: Sequence number mismatch -771632894 vs expected 1.
PTP: Closing session
ERROR: Could not close session!

perhaps it might be worth checking out libtmp svn? if yours is a new player, it's possible there's something different about it that's been fixed in svn.
