Failed to copy track to media

Thu Nov 08, 2007 11:10 pm
I've seen a lot of unanswered posts about this, and haven't seen much activity on this forum in a while, so I'm not holding out much hope.  But what the hell.

For a number of podcasts (and some files), when I try to transfer to an mtp device, I get an immediate "Failed to copy track to media" error.  From what I can tell, the tags are fine.  I don't recall this happening on a previous ums device.  It happens with some pretty standard podcasts -- Boagworld, ZDNet, just about everything from NPR.

I've searched around off and on for a few months now, and haven't found a reason for this.  I saw something once about altering the tags, but honestly, it's just not worth altering every tag of every podcast you download.  Also, even when I do alter the tags, it still sometimes doesn't work.  And I can't tell what needs to be altered -- there's no odd characters, beyond a dash or sometimes a colon.

However, these files do transfer just fine with Rhythmbox or Exaile.  But I use Amarok for my main media player and podcast catcher, and want to be able to transfer my files from that. I don't know if this is because it's an mtp device or what, but it only happens in Amarok.

Does it have something to do with the Unicode issue as described at http://amarok.kde.org/forum/index.php/t ... 516.0.html?

And is there a fix?

*EDIT*
I'm seeing that people are reading this question.  If you're having similar issues, please speak up.

Yes, I have the same annoying experience. Some tracks (or whole CD's) are refused by Amarok to be copied to my mp3 player. And I can't see any odd things with the files. I use an Sansa e200 player.

I had this yesterday and when I looked at the MP3 and the playlist there was indeed a unicode character. I renamed and edited the play list and it synced properly to the ipod.
