I get a message that the codec for mp3 is not installed and when I press to install it I get an error page that my computer is not connected to the internet and ´the codec update cannot be downloaded ! However my internet connection is working ok The address that seems to be unreachable in the browser is file:///usr/share/opensuse-codecs-installer/offline.htm# If I switch back to the Gstreamer, mp3s play normally again any ideas? many thanks Nikos |

So you're using openSUSE right? I don't use it myself, but maybe this could be helpful.

I've merged your three almost identical posts into one topic. Please don't post your question again. Also check the reply above that points you to the answer.

been having the same problem, except I didn't switch to xine !Amarok just staarted telling me that "Xine engine reports it doesn't support mp3 playback due to missing codecs", and now i discovered that it only says "Some media could not be loaded (Not playable)".Furthermore, my play audio-Cd option is greyed out.I can't think of what did this...help?
In Kubuntu amarok 1.4.9.1, using KDE 3.5.9 EDIT:seems I'm using the Void-engine.in either case, amarok is, for me, currently 100% non-functional IMPATIANCE EDIT: Answer really fast you people, you! IMPATIANCE EDIT 2:You very slow people, you! Now!

On Kubuntu installing the kubuntu-restricted-extras metapackage should pull in the required codec libraries.
If you don't want to install all the stuff the extras package wants to pull in try installing libxine1-ffmpeg. Later, Seeker |

Thank you, but libxine1-ffmpeg I have installed.Did so shorlty after installing since it said it couldn't play mp3 files due to missing codecs and this and that. It has since worked, but apparently, no longer, for unknown reason..
Also have kubunt-restricted-aextras installed. I think I remember searching for mp3 in synaptic, and installed it. hm.. ![]() Impatience edit:I require enormous amounts of attention, please!(..and,yes,that's a joke..)

Hm. I looked in settings, since when it said the void-interface can't play mp3's, it reefers to looking there. Changed the interface from none(?) to xine. Now it works just dandy. very

Don't know why the interface would get set to none, unless the yauap engine was initially installed and set as the engine to use and then later removed (yauap uses gstreamer instead of xine), but I would not expect that to be the case in Kubuntu.
