Amarok fails to launch - Gutsy

Fri Nov 23, 2007 4:46 pm
when I try to launch Amarok from the icon I get the splash screen, and then it just disappears.  I tried to launch it from the command prompt, and get the following

jeff@Yoda:~$ amarok
Amarok: [Loader] Starting amarokapp..
Amarok: [Loader] Don't run gdb, valgrind, etc. against this binary! Use amarokapp.
Amarok: [Loader] amarokapp probably crashed!
jeff@Yoda:~$

I am at a loss as where to go from here.  When I was initially installing Amarok using the apt-get I had a power outage when it was installing the dependencies.  I relaunched it later, and everything installed ok.  I have since used apt-get build-dep to try to load them.  I've removed amarok completely, searched out all amarok related files etc. with no luck.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try to nuke your Amarok config: rm ~/.kde/share/config/amarokrc

If that doesn't help, try to start the app with "amarokapp" from the shell, and see what happens.

I have the same problem, but running Debian unstable. Removing the config file doesn't help.

$ amarok
Amarok: [Loader] Starting amarokapp..
Amarok: [Loader] Don't run gdb, valgrind, etc. against this binary! Use amarokapp.
Amarok: [Loader] amarokapp probably crashed!
$ amarokapp
Segmentation fault
$ xmms
Segmentation fault
$ wine cmd
Segmentation fault

Since amarok, xmms, and wine all started segfaultting at the same time I'm guessing the problem is in some shared libraries... but I don't really know anything about anything. I certainly don't know how to fix it :(  Help?

It could be something audio-related, but vlc, xine, and other programs still work.
