Hi all,
Recently I picked up a Sony NW-Z618 mp3 Walkman player. As soon as I plugged it in a folder opened up my desktop and allowed me to drag music to it!! However, when I open Amarok and add items to the player que the option to upload que is greyed out when I right-click on the tracks. Using Amarok 1.4.7 Ubuntu 7.10 Desktop edition Here are my steps to test: 1 - Launch Amrok At this point when I click on the Devices section it says No Device Available 2 - Connect mp3 player a - Sony turn on and changes display to Connecting, Connected Do Not Disconnect, and then back to Connecting b - Folder pops up with folders/files displayed c - Amarok Devices section changes to MTP Media Device at /dev/sda1 however, there are zero tracks in que displayed, even though there are a half dozen pre-loaded songs, along with one non-DRM'd song that I installed via drag & drop. What's odd is that if I unmount the mp3 player it still displays as a connected device in Amarok. But, when I physically disconnect the USB cord after unmounting the Device section goes back to saying No Device Available. Here are the results from the libMTP detect command: robertjm@robertjm-desktop:~$ mtp-detect libmtp version: 0.2.1 Attempting to connect device(s) Detect: No Devices have been found robertjm@robertjm-desktop:~$ sudo mtp-detect [sudo] password for robertjm: libmtp version: 0.2.1 Attempting to connect device(s) Device 1 (VID=054c and PID=0327) is UNKNOWN. Please report this VID/PID and the device model to the libmtp development team usb_claim_interface(): Device or resource busy LIBMTP PANIC: Unable to initialize device 1 LIBMTP PANIC: configure_usb_devices() error code: 7 on line 1806 Detect: There has been an error connecting. Exiting Anyone have any ideas?? Robert |

You should update libmtp to 0.2.4. This version can detect your player

Thanks for the suggestion. Doing so seems to be harder than expected.
I tried compiling the source, but it bombed out on me. Then I found a .deb pkg, however, it requires libc6 v2.71, or greater, which is above what Ubuntu 7.10 has in it. So now I have to update the gcc somehow so I can upgrade the libMTP! Its all giving me a headache. ![]() Robert |
