iPod: huge artwork files

Mon Dec 17, 2007 12:10 pm
Although not exactly the same, this may be related to http://amarok.kde.org/forum/index.php/t ... 225.0.html

I have a 160Gb iPod Classic, and although artwork works good enough, there are a few problems:

1. My artwork files under .amarok/albumcovers make up for about 75M ('/large' folder .png files averaging at ~50K) but the .ithmb files created under iPodControl/Artwork size up to 2.2G
2. When clicked 'Update artwork' on amarok, the Artwork folder on the iPod doubled its size to 4.4Gb, suggesting all the files were transferred again and thus duplicated
3. When browsing the iPod, 'Cover Flow' shows the correct artwork, as so does the 'Now playing' screen, but when browsing the album list the small thumbnails are wrong (same artwork for lots of different albums)

I'm running:
Amarok 1.4.7 (build Nov 24, 2007)
libgpod 0.60  (deb package libgpod3-0.6.0-3)
debian unstable

Any ideas?
Many thanks

Still the same using Amarok 1.4.8 (Build Jan 3 2008)...

After deleting the contents of the Artwork folder on the iPod and rebuilding it with Amarok (via 'Update Artwork') the result was a 8.8Mb ArtworkDB file, plus a bunch of .ithmb files of 245Mb each, summing up to a grand total of 3.1Gb worth of artwork. Also, the iPod showed 6000+ songs (which is correct) but no Artists nor Albums, which was corrected after resetting it (pressing and holding the 'menu' & center buttons for a while).

This is probably a problem with libgpod and not with Amarok, but anyway...

Does anyone else have the same problem, or is it just me?
