AmaroK not powerfull enought ?

Wed Dec 19, 2007 7:10 pm
Hi, i recently installed Ubuntu 7.10 on my Laptop Toshiba Satellite A-110 and i'm currently testing AmaroK

I like the idea of having a connection to infos about the artists and lyrics, its nice and fun to handle with.
There are surelly some thing that i don't get with AmaroK but i'm sure i'll find my answers here =D

But let me just ask you something i have ans external HardDrive Packard Bell S&S 3500 with 500 GB and thats where i stored my ...
...125,54 GB music files. Well running with windows my PC makes some noice but it loads my 125GB of music files in lets say 5 to 8 seconds ( with iTunes of course )

Well heres my point, amarok takes ...time, much more time to load my files. Of course the first time i runed amarok it scaned my music file directory, and it's only normal to take time if it scans. But, to take time and its truly not some seconds neither some minutes to load the files at every time i open the it is quite some disapointment. Sometimes the scaning of AmaroK make my HD crash ... how thats's possible i realy don't know >_>

my questions are:

1st:  Is there something i missed ? a configuration that i sould have done or not ? ( i left barrely everything at default )
2nd: might there be a problem with some of my HardWare drivers ? ( then again i left everything at default on Ubuntu 7,10 )
3rd:  Is it because i'm on Ubuntu and not Kubuntu that amarok might be slowed down like that ? ( i installed some components of Kubuntu for amarok, Kcontrol and Polyester Style, but i doubt that would affect Amarok )
4th:  [Off Topic ] Is there a way for Amarok to read a iTunes library ? and import the playlists ?

Well thouse are all the questions that are on my mind now =s

I hope you guys here could give me a hand ( or at least some advice ^^''' )
And thanks in advance for youre answers ( or thanks for just reading it =P )

Sorry, can't really help you. But which database do you use? If I'm not wrong, I think MySQL is what you should use - maybe you can search for it here in the forums or over in the wiki.
