Alright, I'm a complete Linux newb. I just got Ubuntu running yesterday and finally fixed my internet this morning. I'm now determined to try and solidify my music collection and then I'll finalzie my transition to Linux. The problem I'm having is trying to get the computer to recognize my Zen Vision M, so that I am able to sync it.
I realize there are already detailed help-guides on this topic, but they completely bewilder me. I read that I need to use "libmtp" or something and I downloaded this. I have no idea how to compile libmtp at all, and I'm not even sure whether I'm compiling it alone or with Amarok. Or even how to do that. Furthermore, it appears that you need to do more beyond compiling libmtp. Could anyone detail or at least show me a help guide written for a complete noob like me on this? Even describing compilation and how to use the terminal? Ehh, if not, I appreciate the effort. Thank you. |

hey i'm relatively new to linux as well but hopefully i can help. i am running amarok with my creative zen (and my girlfriend's) without a hitch. you already know you need libmtp - there's a couple ways to do it. i am running ubuntu so i used synaptic package manager - system -> administration -> synaptic package manager. you could also go here - http://libmtp.sourceforge.net/index.php ... load and download and install it yourself. it is very simple to install - just click download and double click the package to install. once you have that done go into amarok and click settings -> configure amarok -> media devices. then you can manually add an mtp device. click ok and it should save it. then connect your zen. you may have to click the main amarok device tab (bottom left) and then click connect. it should fire right up from there. i haven't figured out how to make amarok automatically load and connect when i connect a zen but i'm working on it. if this doesn't get you going just let me know.

lol, thank you for that. I was in the process of doing the very same thing, but I was selecting "Creative nomad jukebox" or whatever instead of MTP device. Rereading your directions was what saved me.
