Distribution is Ubuntu Hardy 8.04a2 (I fully admit it may be a distribution issue...but I could use some debug tips any to help me fix the distribution)
Amarok is 1.4.8 using KDE 3.5.8 ipod is 20GB color So, I restored the ipod with a windows box to get a fat filesystem. I plug it into the linux box, automounter mounts it on /mnt/ipod no problem -- I can browse the files. I run 'dcop kded mediamanager fullList' and the ipod is shown as:
I fire up amarok, Settings->Configure Amarok->Media Devices->Autodetect Devices and I get this error: No new media devices were found. If you feel this is an error, ensure that the DBUS and HAL daemons are running and KDE was built with support for them. You can test this by running "dcop kded mediamanager fullList" in a Konsole window. Anybody know how I can dig deeper into this? Why is amarok not finding the ipod even though it is listed on the dbus? Help much appreciated! |

Ok, so I tried the manual "Add Device" in Amarok and that worked. So, the question is, why did the autodetect not work?

I have the same problem with my Iaudio x5. Except that manual mount also didn't work. So I am rewinding to 1.4.7.

I'm having the same problem with my Cowon iAudioF2 (generic music player). Amarok won't see it via automatic or manual configuration. I'm running gnome Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04 (32 bit on one computer, 64 bit on another).

Same here, if it's worth anything. Using an iRiver T10 generic player on 8.04 beta, and neither adding the device nor autodetect fully work. I can add the device, or autodetect, but it won't actually connect afterwards.
No luck in the Ubuntu forums. Saw a few bugs filed on launchpad, no answers as of yet. Saw one similar bug on the kde bug tracking system, and it was closed as soon as it was opened because Seb doesn't have the same problem (so apparently it's not really a problem). *EDIT* I may have gotten something to work I went into the amarokrc file in ~/.kde/share/config and removed every instance of any device ever configured. I did this with Amarok closed. Saved the file, opened Amarok again, and manually added a generic device. This seemed to work. Might want to give it a try.
