Tag locale broken when importing from Ipod Classic

I have an iPod Classic that now works with Amarok (after building the latest version of libgpod etc) on Ubuntu Gutsy.

I have a lot of songs with Russian ID3 tags (KOI-8 I think); when importing them from the Ipod, Amarok recognized the encoding, so that file and folder names of the MP3 files it created on disk all look fine (ie Russian). However, their tags are garbled, both when viewed in the file browser and in Amarok.

I live in UK/US, so don't want to change my global locale to Russian if it can be avoided; especially as Amarok did recognize the encoding as is, and created the filenames right.

Is this a bug? Is there a workaround to get the tags to import right?

Thanks a lot...

Changed my Ubuntu locale to Russian and re-imported, same result.
