I've been scrounging through the forums this past week to try and solve a problem with how Amarok seems to be messing with my tags (see this http://amarok.kde.org/forum/index.php/topic,10696.0.html and http://amarok.kde.org/forum/index.php/topic,7896.0.html for a description of the problem).  Can anybody point me in the right direction to fix it

Details:
I love Amarok more than any other media player, and recently came back to it after a visit to the Gnome world and using GTKpod, EasyTAG, Rhythmbox and Banshee for the last year and a half.  Unfortunately, as soon as I loaded my library Amarok seems to have capped the length of any and all tags to no more than 30 characters.

My understanding is that this is a conflict between taglib and id3lib.

OK, so that's the problem. But how am I supposed to fix all my tags?

It seems like those long tags have now been permanently overwritten.  When I go back to load my mp3 files in GTKpod or even with iTunes on my Mac, my tags seem to have been irreparably altered by Amarok.

I wouldn't mind so much if it was just a few files being impacted, but I would estimate about 5000 out of my 25,000 tracks have been tag-bungled.  Almost all of these songs were ripped from ancient vinyl and shellac 78s and Musicbrainz isn't much help with fixing those.  I would rather not have to manual fix 5000 tags...

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or help
