On Kubuntu Gutsy 7.10 (running Amarok 1.4.8 on KDE 3.5.
![]() No new media devices were found. If you feel this is an error, ensure that the DBUS and HAL daemons are running and KDE was built with support for them. You can test this by running "dcop kded mediamanager fullList" in a Konsole window. So I ran dcop kded mediamanager fullList, and here's the output: /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_uuid_0176_C1CC sdc2 ANDREW MIN' true /dev/sdc2 /media/ANDREW MIN' vfat true media/removable_mounted ipod_mount false --- /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_uuid_A45C86115C85DE84 sdb1 WD PASSPORT true /dev/sdb1 ntfs false media/removable_unmounted false --- /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_uuid_5a892bc5_be6b_46c5_944c_992aab69455d sda2 35G Media true /dev/sda2 / ext3 true media/hdd_mounted false --- /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_uuid_94E02798E027801A sda1 43G Media true /dev/sda1 /media/sda1 ntfs true media/hdd_mounted false --- As you can see, it can read it. I even tried adding it manually, but it won't connect. |

You upgraded to KDE4? Is that when yours "broke" |

What I really did was the following:
1. Added the repo from ppa (launchpad) "deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-members-kde4/ubuntu gutsy main" 2. sudo apt-get update, sudo apt-get dist-upgrade 3. Restarted kde (still in KDE3) At this point I did not installed the kde4-core package yet. 4. Started Amarok, plugged the ipod, and nothing occured. Then, I opened the settings dialog in amarok, and tried to autodetect devices. No devices were found, but the iPod was already mounted. It says:
It seems there is something wrong with the amarok and the newer kde packages (the 3.5.8 from ppa repository) |

Not sure if that repo will give you good packages...if you are running KDE3 (like me)
Now, I also get that error if I try to "detect" my Ipod with the detect button...This is what I did to allow Amarok to automatically mount it. 1. Connect the Ipod and when KDE asks what to do with it, open in new window. (this will ensure it is really mounted) 2. from a term, type "df" and note the device and mount point that it was assigned. 3. from a term, type "sudo nano /etc/fstab" and add an entry to the bottom so that the Ipod will always mount (and without root) mine looks like this: /dev/sdc1 /media/IPOD vfat users,rw,noauto 0 0 4. Manually add your Ipod as an IPOD device in Settings > Configure Amarok (you will have to know the device and mount point here) and then set the model in the devices tab. (once on the tab, it is near the top and is expanded under the IPOD button - might have to make the left pane wider to see it) Good Luck. |

Yup, that was it. I removed all the KDE 4 packages (and the repository), reinstalled all the KDE packages that were dist-upgraded, and Amarok picked it up.

I had to do that also, I'll have to wait until a more polished version is released

I confirms this also happens in Hardy.
It is a stupid thing, but for me it is really annoying. |
