I think I'm going to have to dump Amarok. I really like it as a music manager and jukebox, but what can I do if it can't handle gapless playback of albums ripped directly to ogg? Yeah, I know, it's a xine engine problem, but isn't there another (non-gstreamer) solution?
And then there's the issue of cddb lookup...I can't get it to work consistently. It usually works immediately after boot, but then a couple cds later it dies. And on top of that it takes like 2 mins and the drive spins up, noise, etc. |

Gapless playback should actually work just fine with oggs.

You I know, *should*...But I'm getting too many instances of gaps in ogg tracks. They play back properly gapless in Audacious with Crossfade plugin set for 'gapless/off' in which the sound server doesn't close between tracks (gap killer and crossfade options disabled). So it must be the xine engine's flaky implementation of gapless feature in vorbis that's causing the problem. So, you don't have any gap problems with tracks ripped from, say, live or classical albums? |
