I cannot play audio cds from Amarok but I can access them through Sound Juicer and K3b in /dev/scd0.
I am using Ubuntu 7.10 and Amarok 1.4.7 with Xine engine.

I have solved it and I thought of leaving the solution it worked for me, since other people may have the same issue:
I have installed the arts and libarts files with Synaptic.
