I finally figured out how to list various artist album songs under each individual artist name instead of under the Various Artists category (I did this by right clicking each album in the various artist category and clicking "Do not show under various artists").  However, whenever I rescan my collection Amarok moves all of those songs back under the various artists category again.  Is there any way I can prevent this from happening whenever I rescan my collection?

selecting and unselecting  this option sets the "album artist" tag as "various artists", this is how you identify a compliation album vice a bunch of individual albums.  If you rescan and it picks back up as individual albums then you are not waiting long enough for the amarok engine to rewrite the tag ( guess.  I assume that everything else is the same, the album name and year...?

Instead of a full rescan, try an update - that should only incrementally add new tracks, rather than rewriting the entire collection.
