ok, so of all the music players i've tried for linux i ended up choosing amarok to manage my music and i became rather fond of it, too... until the recent problems i came across involving my ipod.
the first problem (now solved... kinda) happened when i decided to upgrade my SVN-amarok after i had the minor problem of everything in my playlist being doubled for no apparent reason (everything in my collection appears twice, with the same tags/location/everything... this problem has not been solved, btw i'm just kind of living with it); after i up'd the SVN i started having problems connecting my ipod to amarok... it would recognize the device, but would not connect with it, instead just showing the "Media Device Browser"-box, although it would say "ipod video (black) at ... (mounted)"; i tried everything i could think of and searched all over the boards here and nothing would work, aside from installing from source code so i compiled from source and such, and now i have this strange problem with amarok loading the files from my ipod... the Music directory on my pod has all it's F## folders capitalized, the problem is that in my iTunesDB (i assume) the kpod files are said to reside in f## folders (uncapitalized), so amarok will only load/play the files that i put on there with iTunes a while back, while telling me that the files in the little-f folders don't exist (although i guess they kind of don't if they are all in big-F folders); GTKpod doesn't seem to have any problems at all and when i tell it to tell xmms to play my pod's music it works perfectly without any of this "local file does not exist" **** i use postgresql for my db management now, but i used sqlite before switching from SVN- to src-amarok, if that makes a difference anyone? ideas? suggestions? halp? |

I have checked out the SVN too (updated), there seems to be a problem with connecting Ipods. I get mounted on ... but connect doesn't work also. I suppose if someone mentions this to a dev then we may see a fix soon. Also what version IPOD do you have?

i'm using a 5.5G 30gig pod
oh, and i've found a solution to the problem i'm having now, but it's not really a fix... it involves moving the Music directory from my pod onto my harddrive, and then using Amarok to reupload everything from the files now on my HD back onto my pod; it works but it's not entirely a desired fix due to the time it takes and would really be a hassle should this continue to happen |

I am reformatting the Ipod as we speak will post results after. I have a IPOD Classic 160Gb, if that matters at all.

I'll just chip in that I'm having the exact same problem with the SVN build as the first two posters. My iPod works fine in iTunes and gtkpod, and Amarok appears to detect that it's been mounted, but it will not connect when I click the "Connect" button. If I run amarok in a terminal, it also doesn't print any debugging output when I push the "Connect" button.

Formatting with Itunes made matters worse, mounted the ipod at /media/usbdrive instead. I have since update to Hardy and still have the same issues with the svn version of Amarok, but have uninstalled until a fix will come around I guess. Will have to do without the cover updates. I have checked in the IRC channel but no one seemed to have any idea, also I have checked the SVN changelogs and file comparisons and doesn't seem to have any significant changes.
PS The current build date I am using is Mar 26 2008 with no issues if that helps.

svn should have a fix for this issue. Please test! |

If you use (K)ubuntu hardy, you're lucky: Amarok 1.4.9.1 (including the fix) has already hit the repos.
