Hello.
I'm using Amarok 1.4.8 on a Gentoo Linux ~x86 system. I installed the transKode 0.7 script and also tried to use soundkonverter 0.3.6. I compiled the program with these flags:
LAME is also installed (and found by the scripts). I would like to setup Amarok so, that it automatically transcodes unsupported media files, when they are to be transferred to the media player. The media player is a Philips GoGear 2GB and it's setup can be seen in the attached screenshot. As you can see there, I set m4a, mp3 and wav as supported file types and unsupported stuff should be converted to mp3. When I now try to transfer an OGG file to the player with Amarok, Amarok will just refuse to do this. It prints a message stating, that OGG isn't supported on the player. That's right - it's not. But how would I setup Amarok so, that it automatically transcodes unsupported media types? And what does the "Andere Formate umwandeln nach:" ("Other formats should be converted to", or something like this) actually do? As it is right now, it doesn't seem to do anything at all. Thanks a lot for your time and help, Michael |

try the transkode script.
edit: by that, I mean you should install transkode for the dialogue to work properly.

Re: Automatic transcoding when transferring to media player - how? [solved]

Hello!
I first needed to activate the "Change format, before transferring" option ("Vor dem Übertragen umwandeln", in the german screenshot). IMO it's a bug, that the marked option "Transform other formats to" ("Andere Formate umwandeln nach:") is active, even if the "Change format" is NOT active. Or does the "Transform other formats to" do anything at all, if "Change format" is not active? Regards, Michael |

have you posted it as a bug on bugs.kde.org? It's fairly plain in english, but perhaps the translation needs clarification?

No, I have not posted it on the bugtracker, but I will do so. Could somebody please tell me, how the options that I'm talking about are called in English?
Thanks, Michael |
