Hello,
I am afraid I am a bit new to Amarok. So far I like it a lot, but I am having a bit of difficulty.

I am running Debian Lenny (testing). I installed Amarok by simply doing a:
apt-get install amarok
I just accepted the defaults (like using SQLight instead of MySQL, ect ect)
The version I am running according to apt is 1.4.8-1
The version according to Amarok->Help->About is 1.4.8 (using KDE 3.5.9)
The computer is a P4 2.3Ghz with 2GB ram.

I tried to search for an answer, but I either got a lot of false positives (common keywords) or nothing at all.

While listening to music, there is a play bar at the bottom right of the screen. It moves along as music plays. If I attempt to skip ahead or skip back using the mouse the music stops, amarok freezes for ~3-5 seconds, and then the song skips to the end and plays the next track in the playlist. At first I thought it had something to do with the mp3's I had so I tried Flac and OGG and both of them had the same problem.

I thought maybe it would use the same middle-clicking required to get totem to skip ahead. So as the song played I middle clicked further in the music stream. The position marker jumped ahead, but when I let go of the click it jumped right back. The music never skipped or jumped ahead; it just continued on its' way like nothing happened.

I can use the arrow keys to skip back or ahead but it only goes in 10 second increments.

Is this a bug? Am I being dumb and missing something incredibly obvious or doing something stupid?

Thanks for any suggestions!

[Edit] I seem to have broken it further. I tried to skip far ahead by using the keyboard (aka: I hit the right arrow key really fast like 5 times) and Amarok completely froze up. It was frozen for a while then I just left the computer to get something to drink (~10 minutes) and when I came back, it was "playing" the music file but there was no sound at all. Skipping to another song didn't do anything. Hitting the stop button froze Amarok for another 10 seconds or so. Then I was able to play music again with audible sound. However, now everytime I use the arrow keys to skip around, I lose sound. I have to stop and then wait and then hit play again.

At this point I think I have a bug, I will go search the forums for debugging information.

Not that I can help with the problem, but I can tell you that I've never had a problem like that while I've used Gutsy (and now Hardy), so it's a bug of some sort.

Thank you for your reply.

I had an update today.
Apt and Amarok say I have version 1.4.9.1 now.

When I click on the timeline bar, it jumps 30 seconds forward and backward and I lose sound until the next track (or I stop and replay the song).

The lagging and freezing doesn't seem to occur anymore either. At least I have not been able to replicate it now. Friday was able to replicate it on demand.

So the update certainly fixed things for me, but I still can't skip forward or backwards in the song.

I am afraid I have been unable to find anything else out.

Thanks again for replying. At least I know that it should work that way.

BINGO!
I was messing about with the settings and found that I have two selections on my "Settings->Configure Amarok->Engine" tab. Xine and Yauap. It was selected to Xine so I changed it to Yauap just because I could. Now it works! I can skip around on the timeline without problem. Everything else seems to work as I expect it to so I don't think I lost out on anything.

To be honest, I don't know the difference between the two engines, but that's OK. I can GIS it later. My problem seems to have gone away. Maybe this is a problem with Xine instead of Amarok?
