Hello all,
I feel a little stupid, because I searched the forum and all people seem to be at least two setps before me... But here we go: I am using Kubuntu 8.04 together with Amarok 1.4.9.1 and libgpod 0.6.0. My iPod is a brandnew 160GB black. Now, I synchronized the iPod with Amarok and all went fine - but it didn´t copy any covers on the iPod. I´ve read something about "update artwork" - but I didn´t find this option anywhere (I use german version of Amarok, btw). Can please anybody point me the way how to get covers on my iPod? Regards, Dennis

on top of the media device tab there is a little ipod button which should show a drop down menu. one option there is to set your ipod model, and another one is to update your artwork.

Okay, I found these two things - and additional imformation.
I looked in the repositories and found out that there are two ligpod packages available: - libgpod3 - libgpod3-nogtk (both version 0.6.0) The information of libgpod3-nogtk says "This version does not include artwork support". So I deinstalled this package - and strangely, Amarok was also deinstalled. After that, I installed "libgpod3", reinstalled Amarok. Next step was to select my iPod modell and click on "update artwork". But for over 4200 tracks, this took one second and - as I thought by the short time - no cover was transmitted. So what could be a next step? Regards, Dennis |

the actual copying of the album artwork takes place during the 'disconnect' operation.

Okay, here we may have discovered a possible reason for the problem: When I click on "Disconnect" in Amarok, I get a "synchronization" message on the iPod. After that, Amarok says that the command after the umount failed (which is "kdeeject -q %d").
After this, the iPod itself still displays that the device is connected. But a "$ mount" on the commandline does not show any probable connected iPod. Another point: Do I have to make sure that the images of the covers are in any special format in order that the iPod is displaying them correctly? Regards, Dennis |

if you have set your ipod model correctly, then i have no idea why it would not work.
do you have an iPod_Control/Artwork folder or something similar on your ipod? does copying artwork with gtkpod work? the artwork that is displayed by amarok should be fine for coyping to your ipod. |

Wlell, I set the the model correctly, I guess, as there is only one model available that fits "160GB" and "black"
![]() The folder "iPod_Control/Artwork" is there. But strangely, this folder was not there when "libgpod3-nogtk" was installed - or I did not get it displayed. I´ve installed gtkpog-aac and included a cover there. This worked perfectly (which a cover out of the amarok dir for covers) - which makes me a little bit sad, because first, I like Amarok more and second, gtkpod doesn´t seem to have an automatic function to link a song to a cover (and do select covers manually for more than 20 albums isn´t really a good idea...) Is there a possibility to acivate some kind of logging of Amarok why this does not work? Regards, Dennis |

Okay, now it's getting strange: Up to now, I tried to synchronize the iPod from my laptop. I am at home right now and plugged the same iPod into my desktop PC. And: Now, the covers are transferred.
That's strange, because both the laptop and the desktop are installed with Kubuntu Hardy Heron, 8.04 from CD (no Install-DVD). The only big difference is that the laptop has a 32bit CPU and the desktop a AMD64bit CPU, so I used on one side 8.04 i386 and on the other side AMD64 mediums to install. But what confused me is that on the desktop machine, the correct libgpod3 (not libgpod3-nogtk) was installed from start, so I didn't have to reinstall the correct one. Both PCs have the same /etc/apt/sources.list (with medibuntu in it). Can you think of any cause? If you need any info to solve this riddle, let me know - I will provide all necessary data! I solved the problem:
1. purged Amarok from my hdd 2. rm -rf ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok 3. Reinstalled Amarok And that did it - now it also works on my laptop! Regards, Dennis |
