Hi,
I am new to Linux (Mandriva) and Amarok. First this is a great player. I have a question, Amarok shows that it is using the xine engine. For this do I need to run the artsd? If not how do I stop it from running? Any help please - thanks Dev, UK |

You don't need artsd for xine. For sounds in most KDE apps you do need artsd.
But you can disable artsd anyways. Open up kcontrol, type 'sound' in the text box and there will be an option to turn off the Sound Server.

No worries though. Artsd is already gone in KDE4, which your distro will probably switch to over the next year or so if they haven't already.
