Smart playlists of podcasts?

Thu Jul 03, 2008 10:32 am
I listen to several podcasts, but generally not immediately when they come out. So in iTunes, I had a smart playlist that had "Genre is Podcast and Playcount is 0" as rules, so I didn't lose track of my new podcast episodes.

Is it possible to have smart playlists of podcasts in amarok? I found a post that said "no", but that was almost 2 years old, so maybe something has changed since then?

flosch, I'm in the same boat as you.  I did the same thing with iTunes and my iPod for my daily commute, and it was so convenient. I alwasy had fresh stuff to listen to and all I had to do was sync up every few days.  It would auto-delete the files too, which made housekeeping essentially nil.

It looks like Amarok can do this, but I'm having a dilly of a time figuring it out.

I'm using the media payer in my Garmin Nuvi, and I want to do the same thing.  It just needs an M3U playlist (with the mp3s, of course) on a SD card.  The playlist must refer to the relative file locations.

Should I use a Smart playlist or a Dynamic playlist?  I'm trying Smart for now.

In Amarok, under Podcast settings, I have it set to add my Podcasts to the transfer queue.  I'm not sure this is really the way to go.

Instead, I have created a Smart Playlist.  The only rule it needs is "Genre is Podcast".  My Nuvi won't update the play count, so I haven't added a rule for that, but I would if it could.

I need more time to experiment with things.

I spent the last 3 days trying to get smart playlists of unplayed podcasts working! I will watch this thread with interest.
