Hello,
I am totally new to Linux and 13 years old. When I connect my ipod it open Rhythmbox and I can put music on my ipod. But I can't put videos. I installed Amarok and I did what it says to select Media Devices, Apple iPod Media Device from the Plugin: drop-down. Click Apply and then OK. But then when I press the connect button in Amarok to connect my ipod it says "Media Device: No mounted ipod found". Can you tell me what to do? Thank you. |

What linux distribution are you running?
Do you have KDE installed? If you're using KDE version 4 then that may be the cause of your problems. |

I am guessing he is using ubuntu... isn't rhythmbox a Ubuntu app prepackaged with Ubuntu, do you have more than one device connected you might be trying to mount the wrong mount point

I'm having the same problem. I've got Ubuntu 8.04 (hardy) and this distribution mounts my iPod automatically when i connect it via the supplied USB. It opens rythmbox but, I too find this program lacking and would like to use Amarok for iPod management and listening to tunes from my iPod. Clearly the iPod mounts (an icon for it even appears on the desktop) but when i try to connect to the device using the instructions on the amarok site, i get the same "Media Device: No mounted ipod found".
I've checked the obvious, like the mount location being correct, etc.... and to no avail. My only guess is that whatever default mounting procedure happens with Ubuntu 8.04 are not compatible with amarok (or there are missing libraries or some stupid thing). Any help here would be appreciated. Connecting an iPOD to amarok should be a breeze, if this software is to go anywhere. Thanks in advance, Dan PS. my iPOD is 5th generation (iPod video, 30Gb) and should be supported, according the info provided by amarok |

I have pretty much the same problem. The OS i am using is Ubuntu 8.04.1 and the ipod is shuffle.
My problem is when ipod not recognize by one user but the other is ok. The only different is the user that can access ipod and amarok has administrator right, and the user that can not access ipod in amarok is a normal user. How can anyone help me to overcome this problem. Initially I thought that when the ipod mount it will be like the cddrom where everyone has the right to use it. Please help. thanks. |

Check where the OS is mounting the iPod. This is going to be the first bit of information you need. Also you are going to want to check the preconnect commands. If Ubuntu is mounting the iPod to say /media/IPOD then ensure that that is the mount point Amarok is looking at. The biggest difference I believe but someone may want to correct me is that while Amarok makes all iPod calls from libgpod, I THINK Rythmbox makes it's calls from the mono libs. Correct me if I am wrong. This is information that would go a long way to helping you guys out.
At best, ensure the settings for the ipod point to the proper mount point, then clear out the pre and post connect commands in the options. Ensure your iPod type is also set proper in Amarok. Here's hoping this helps. |

LD, thank you very much for the advise. I am totally new to linux just installed Ubuntu hardy 8.04.1 few hours ago. Sorry for my ignorance as I am in the process of learning now.
To further illustrate the problem clearly. I have create two log-in in the Ubuntu hardy: 1. myself - with adminsitrator privilage 2. wife - no administrator privilage. In my log-in(myself) amarok sees the ipod and connected to it automatically(when ipod connected to ubuntu). I can also transfer songs to ipod. Everything else seems to work fine. But in my wife log-in, the ipod got mounted correctly by Ubuntu hardy, and the mount point is actually the same. the setting in amarok is totally the same with what i have in my log-in. Unfortunately amarok does not connect to ipod at all, furthermore when i tried to manually connect to it, it shows the message " Media Device : No mounted ipod found" Any kind of help appreciated. thanks. |

It may have to do with the user permissions for your wife.
If this were Gentoo I'd say make sure she can access the iPod period as a mass storage device. Try some extrnal USB drives as well on her account and see if you can access them. If the answer is no then you may need to add her to the (under Gentoo, no idea about Ubuntu) plugdev group. Then log out and log in and see what happens. |
