I just installed amarok and scanned my music library, unfortunately, amarok reads a good deal of my songs using kanji (I guess) characters
![]() Sometimes it's just the songs, sometimes the album and songs, and about cases are artist, album and songs. Some albums also have less than half the songs supposed to be there. Any suggestions? Thank you |

I just installed Amarok and have the exact same problem. So far I've been unable to find any helpful information on how to solve this and am on the verge of re-tagging each of my files by hand in Amarok (re-tagging them in EasyTag didn't help) because I do want them to be correctly displayed before I play anything so that my last.fm doesn't get garbled! Any help is appreciated, thanks
![]() For the record, I'm running Ubuntu 8.04.1 Hardy Heron, and Amarok 1.4.9.1. |

I am not sure if this applies here, but this sounds like a problem with broken UTF-8 tags. See the Wiki (Infobase) for more on this or search this forum.

I tried searching the forum and tried this solution on the FAQ page, but it doesn't seem to work and I'm pretty sure I used the Perl script correctly although I'm fairly new to all this... I followed the instructions here. Would it be a problem with id3v2.3 versus 2.4 tags? |

As a sidenote, if it helps - I just tested Amarok 2.0 and it reads everything absolutely perfectly. Unfortunately I can't adopt it as my full-time player as it is because it's missing many features in its beta state, but hopefully this additional information helps to isolate the problem? There must be some difference in the way 2.0 and 1.4.9.1 are reading tags...
