I'm running OS X (10.5.4) on a C2D MacBook. I already use Amarok 2 in a number of Linux OSes but would dearly like to have it on my OS X partition.
So, I started with this guide but ran into a problem with the install of xine-lib. The guide says:
However, the '\' is actually the LAST thing on that line. In any event, I deleted the line, saved and exited, then ran
but got this error
Hmm. So back to the guide which says that the above-mentioned edit
So, I inserted "lib:libaa:aalib" where the line used to be and tried the "sudo port install xine-lib" command again. This time I got a very similar error:
It seems that the guide was written with xine-lib 1.1.14 in mind and I believe I may have a later version (although I'm not sure how to find out what version I actually have). Any clues as to how I can get over this xine-lib problem? |

Absolutely - try the new installer

Thanks. What you suggest seems an awful lot simpler than what I've been trying.
Nevertheless, I did finally manage to get the xine-lib installed. It appears that the guide's advice to "look for the line which begins with depends_lib. Delete everything up to and including the '\' on that line" is misplaced. I updated my ports and tried the xine-lib install again wihout deleting that line and it completed fine. Yes, I know it put some unnecessary stuff in, but at least it worked. So now I'm proceding with the install which involves quite a sizable compile so it may be some time before I know if I was successful or not. If not, I now have a fallback. |

Well, the compile according to this guide didn't quite go the way I wanted. First, Subversion didn't install from ports but I was easily able to get it from elsewhere.
Next, neither JPEG nor LIBMNG installed from ports either so I just went ahead without them. The big compile seemed to be going fine other than the fact that it seemed to eat up disk space like crazy. I had about 5 GB available before I started but got a warning about 1 hour into the compile that I was nearly out of disk space. So, I pulled the plug, deleted as much of the KDE and Amarok stuff that I could and downloaded the .dmg in dangle_wtf's post. This installed fine and Amarok started up on my Mac without problems. It imported all my music collection and the .mp3 files all play fine. The two problems I have with Amarok 2 on OS X up to now are: 1. Can't play .wma files even after downloading Flip4Mac from here. On the Mac, I use mediaplayer Plex to play my .wma files which it does without any problem and without having installed anything else. 2. Even though I have checked Last.Fm in the Amarok Internet preferences, Last.fm does not show up when I click the Internet tab. Other than that, this was a big advance today getting Amarok to play in OS X. ![]() |

Hm, haven't played with .wma files, but last.fm is working fine here. The Internet tab shows the different radio stations available, and it's submitting played tracks perfectly. Have you tried restarting Amarok?
The config *should* have been saved when you exited the configuration screen, but it might not have for whatever reason. Also try either trashing /Users/

Well, yes, Last.fm is now available under the internet tab. I did no more than uncheck and recheck the last.fm box in internet preferences.
However, it seems very buggy. It plays one song from my custom radio but then Amarok crashes when it tries to move on to the second song. Gives this error message:
But the good news is that .wma files have now become playable. Seems that Flip4Mac has finally started doing its thing. But why the delay? I believe that some things we are not meant to understand ![]() |

I have a feeling I saw the last.fm issue reported on the mailing list, so stay tuned for that one.
