I have got my ipod 80Gb Classic linked with Amarok and I can happily transfer albums with no problems and yet although Amarok is showing all my Album covers the ipod is not showing any! I am using an Ubuntu machine.

You can go...Tools > Cover Manager > Fetch missing covers in Amarok to get them in Amarok.

As for getting them on your iPod. 

After you have transferred the song just make sure you iPod > Add Album Art ( or whatever it says).  Then hit disconnect.  This should work.
