Hello Guys,
When I'm trying to play any kind of song, there is a strange problem with my Amarok installation. There is no sound and the progress bar does not move on. System information: Mandriva 2009 cooker, RC2 and standard Amarok rpm package. The old 1.4.10 plays all music without any problems on this system. Furthermore I was using Amarok on Mandriva cooker beta 2 and it worked fine. I do not see any xine engine for this new release in the rpm list, only for the old kde3 - has it something to do with my problem? How can I solve or at least track this issue Any support would be very appreciated. Regards Beny |

Amarok 2 uses Phonon for audio, which is a KDE abstraction library that can use xine, GStreamer, etc as backends.
Mandriva by default uses a GStreamer backend, so you need to make sure that the right codecs for it are installed.

Thank you for a quick and supportive response!
That's what I have installed: rpm -qa | grep phonon
rpm -qa | grep gstreamer
What is still missing, any idea? Regards B. An UPDATE: I added following packages: phonon-xine-4.1.2-3mdv2009.0 gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-0.10.9-1plf2009.0 gstreamer0.10-plugins-good-0.10.10-2mdv2009.0 gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg-0.10.5-2mdv2009.0 and finally updated: phonon-gstreamer-4.2.0-13mdv2009.0 Now it works as designed ![]() Amarok - great job. Regards Beny

You might be missing a mp3 plugin. Try to install gstreamer-plugins-bad and gstreamer-plugins-ugly too. Also Mandriva uses a special licensed MP3 codec for GStreamer, the name of which escapes me. But you should be able to google that or ask in their forums.
