Hi everyone.
I'm using a Gentoo 2008.0 with gnome and when I try installing some scripts I always get this : " Script installation failed. The package did not contain an executable file. Please inform the package maintainer about this error." Is this a python related thing ? The default scripts included in Amarok work fine. (Lyrc, ...) I ran python-updater, everything is up to date. Did I miss a use flag ? "media-sound/amarok-1.4.10-r1 USE="amazon daap ifp ipod mp4 mtp musicbrainz mysql opengl postgres python visualization -debug -kde -njb -real -xinerama" LINGUAS="-af -ar -az -be -bg -bn -br -ca -cs -cy -da -de -el -en_GB -eo -es -et -eu -fa -fi -fr -ga -gl -he -hi -hu -id -is -it -ja -km -ko -ku -lo -lt -mk -ms -nb -nds -ne -nl -nn -pa -pl -pt -pt_BR -ro -ru -rw -se -sk -sl -sq -sr -sr@Latn -ss -sv -ta -tg -th -tr -uk -uz -zh_CN -zh_TW" 0 kB " Both dev-python/pyqt are installed. I said "script already installed" but it doesn't show in the script menu. So what's wrong ? |

So, what scripts did you try to install, and where did you get them from? It's obvious that the script packages must be corrupt.

I tried copycover from this link http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=22517
and Cover Fetcher, Embeded Cover by the direct download from Amarok. I even tried random scripts. I always get the same result. I have no idea left. The problem is on my laptop. My desktop runs a gentoo too but Xfce It runs fine. |

So, are there executable files in the script package, or not?

Any news on this? I'm getting the same thing.
Script installation used to work fine. Now, every attempted installation fails with this error; even scripts packages I've saved to my hard drive and previously installed successfully. Yes, they contain the executable. No, they're not corrupt. Amarok has just gotten itself confused somehow. I'm on Ubuntu 8.04 (Kubuntu actually), KDE 3.5.10, Amarok 1.4.9.1... This is killing me because scripts are the only way I can transcode and actually populate my ipod! |

Without knowing what has changed (if anything) on your system, there's not much that can be offered. Have you perhaps updated things or installed a new version of your distro, and missed a required package, or had a package change versions at some stage? I'd look at things like ruby and python.
Also check for Amarok 1.4.10

If I'd made any changes, I would have said so
This is (and always has been) a completely vanilla kubuntu install, nothing special. It is possible that I ran apt-get update/upgrade between when this worked and when it broke, but that would be all that changed. Python and Ruby are of course still installed, though it would surprise me if these had anything to do with it -- the problem is not running scripts; the problem is Amarok itself unpacking new scripts. I've gotten an upgrade of amarok (2:1.4.9.1-0ubuntu3.2) but the problem persists. I could try to force an installation of 1.4.10, but I try to avoid deviating from the standard distro -- I have enough problems with vanilla setups as they are straight from the distro provider. I thought some help might be able to be offered since this seems to be a common problem; I thought perhaps it was a known bug with workarounds. Search for, e.g., [amarok "did not contain an executable file" -copyright -translations -cvs] and you'll find various other people reporting this. |

Have you tried deleting/backing up the amarok config in ~/.kde/share/config/amarok ?
