Installing Amarok on KDE/Linux

Wed Oct 08, 2008 11:38 am
I'm a complete noob to Linux and whatever KDE is. Anyhow I need a  MP3 player so I can listen to tracks while I try to learn this new OS and do some much needed coding. I've download amarok-1.92.2.tar.bz2 and I have no idea how to install it. Once I extract it what should be my next step ? How do you install programs on Linux ? Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you.

Hi Nishua -- not so long ago I was brand-new to Linux also. To help you, we need a bit more information. Most "distributions" will allow you to automatically download and install Amarok. So we need to know what distro you are using, to give you more help. Some popular distros are Mandriva, Ubuntu, Kubuntu (this is Ubuntu with KDE built-in), Gentoo, SuSE, etc.

KDE and Gnome are two popular desktop window managers, and there are others. But that doesn't have a whole lot to do with how one downloads and installs new programs.

Congratulations on choosing Amarok -- it's the best!
