I just got done getting Amarok 2 SVN up and running... I have to say, I am really liking it... the user interface could use some work (kind of obnoxious at times) however this piece of software has some real potential to it... I mean, seriously, I've used linux for awhile and this is the first thing I've come across that could replace iTunes... well done...
Although, I am having a little issue... when I click on Organize Files... and go through the GUI all I get is: amarok: [WARNING!] Could not create directory QDir I assumed perhaps... user permissions. But, the directory has a UMASK of 777... So, I'm not sure... How's everyone else's luck with this feature? Are there any tricks? |

Hello,
Thanks for the compliments we really appreciate them. This error sounds like a bug I might have introduced in the past couple weeks. Could you paste some more debug output on both sides of the [WARNING] line? Also, double check the collection folders at the top of the "Organize" dialog and make sure it is going to the correct place. Is that location a network drive? Another thing that would help me is if you took a screen shot of the Organize Dialog right before you clicked "OK". If you're using KDE4 use the ksnapshot utility. Casey

Hi... thanks for the response... I appreciate the support...
I actually think I got it figured... appending the actual location of the directory before the replacement string solved the issue. I think it was trying to write to "/" So, in my situation all my music is under /opt/music/ - well, I assumed that amarok would write from that directoy... however I continued getting the write permission errors. So, on a whim... I tried putting the absolute path /opt/music/%genre/%artist/%album/%title.%filetype and away she went... It's working now and re-organizing my music... thanks for the hard work... I don't have the error codes anymore since it started working and my terminal only goes back 15000 lines... If I can help feel free to ask... |

Ah, you want the %folder token

lol... that sounds like it would have done it... I'll keep that in mind for future use...
thanks again... ##### Just in case anyone else comes across this... I've learned a couple things from this experience... 1. have to define the whole folder location - %folder or by dragging the "collection root" variable to the bar... 2. It's best not to do the WHOLE collection at once... it seems to get really slow when doing more than about 5 or 6 gigs at a time... could be my system, but it's stopped ubuntu intrepid dead in its tracks a couple times now...
